I love painting in Blackwood Canyon, just outside of Tahoe City. Andy Skaff and I paint there together when I visit. I completed this work for my solo show (opening April 13 in Pacific Grove). I took photos at interim stages, so hope to make it into a video as I did the “Secluded Cove” … Continue reading Autumn in Blackwood Canyon
Have just spent a couple of days painting the Fall colors of the Sierras. Incredible Aspens, and even the ground cover and bushes have incredible reds, yellows and oranges. I plan on doing a series on this subject, which should be ready for my December show at Viewpoints Gallery. Enjoy! “Blackwood Stream, Morning”.I started this small plein air painting on a recent trip to Lake Tahoe, where I painted with my friend Andy Skaff. The light hitting the top of these grasses really drew me in, as well as the color of the shadow areas. While painting this, I met another plein air artist from … Continue reading Blackwood Canyon
Concentrated on just one painting today, the last day of North Tahoe Plein Air. While I was looking for a spot, I ran into judge ZeeZee Mott, who was painting on the shore even after just arriving home from Africa the day before! She was in great spirits, and we talked about my relation to … Continue reading North Tahoe Plein Air, Day 3

Laura Reilly and Bill Guffy also chimed in with their comments and positive experiences. This is keeping me loose, keeping colors clean, and just a physical … Continue reading More painting knife studies
I didn’t make it to Blackwood Canyon this year, so I’m relying on old digital photos for this painting of an Aspen grove there. Aspens – Oil on Linen – 12×9″ I’m off to the Russian River area for New Years, and hope to have some paintings of the coast there later in the week.
Well, Tahoe is beautiful but really, really windy today. So it’s time to hang out with the family and cook for Thanksgiving. No painting today. Maybe tomorrow. This is Blackwood Canyon, my favorite spot to paint Aspens in the Fall. Blackwood Canyon, Lake Tahoe, CA – 22 November ’06 Kyle and Jo Laderman, Lake Tahoe, … Continue reading Tahoe Update
This weekend I’m headed up to Alta to paint the Sierras. I’m staying with Sam and Phil, close friends that have us up at their home on Alta lake a couple of times a year. I hope there’s snow at the lake, as there are compositions ready to be painted everywhere! I also may head … Continue reading The Sierras in Winter
