Real Blue Sky Fitzgerald Marine Preserve, Oil on Linen, 12x9

True Blue Sky

Yesterday, I finally had the combination of opportunity and weather I need to paint.  It’s been a busy few months, having started a full time job in October.  Since I’ll be traveling a lot more, I’m starting to carry a small watercolor kit to take advantage of any opportunities that arise then.  I have to say, I really admire watercolorists. It’s much harder than it works. I should probably succumb to a workshop soon.

The sky was just incredible.  Behind me was the sea (a normal subject), but looking up the path from the street to the beach, I saw a sight I knew I had to paint.  I’m a sucker for intense blue skies!

  1. Hi Ed,
I’ve been thinking of you and how amazing your journey to art has been. You just keep getting better and better. I’m proud to own one of your early paintings: a seascape. Watercolor is great, I used to be all watercolor. You could still do your oils with a small pochade box! I’m having a little trouble traveling now because my dog won’t stay in a kennel. He’s great in a hotel however; just takes a long time to drive.
    Very best wishes,
Nancy Darling (met you at a Scottsdale WS: Gay Faulkenberry I think)

    1. Thanks, Nancy! I’ve really enjoyed your evolution as well. I’m looking forward to painting full time again in the next few years.

That workshop with Gay was great. I’ve used Mauve Blue Shade on my palette ever since. Great mixing color.

  2. Hi,
I’ve been a fan for awhile and love your work.

I’m an instructor of watercolor, oil painting and plein air painting at Spruill Center for the arts in Atlanta, Ga.

I’ve been studying and working on contemporary colorist techniques.

Do you ever have workshops in the southeast? Atlanta?

    Love to hear from you.
    Estelle
