I’m leaving Saturday morning for a week of painting as part of the San Luis Obispo Plein Air 2006 show.  I’m really looking forward to this.  It’s a much smaller group than Estes Park Plein Air, and I have several friends in the show.  We’ve decided to get together for regular critiques during the week (it is a competition), but I’ll also be using this blog to get feedback, so check in the week of Oct 1st, especially towards the end of the week when I have to choose my three best paintings.

San Luis Obispo Plein Air Festival 2006 schedule of events:

  • October 2-7. Watch plein air painters paint the area landscape, downtown SLO
  • October 7, 9:30-11:30am. Quick Draw competition at the Mission Plaza grounds
  • October 7, 11:30-1:00pm. QuickDraw live auction
  • October 7, 6pm. Reception at the San Luis Obispo Art Center.

  1. Ed, Hi.. I read much more than I comment. I wish you the best on the show/competition. We will be in Magdalena, NM, with dial up and everything with pictures takes forever. So I will miss you work. Wish you the best and I will continue to look when I can, see you from Texas, the end of October.

  2. Cheer up Ed – I came down that whole coast from Montery in July and the only place where I had sunshine before I hit Malibu was in San Luis Obispo – from about 11am. Give my love to the Big Sky Cafe and I’ll be keeping a lookout for your work.

  3. Hi Ed,
This is one of my favorites by you. I live in Solvang, not far from Buelton and see views like this a lot here so I know first-hand that you did an excellent job capturing the mood and warmth of the area at that time of day.
Congratulations on the awards and sales at the SLO show…what a week for you! Excellent going there.
By the way, I also had a piece in the Central Coast National Art Competition in Morro Bay. I got to see both of your works entered and you sure are one hell of a painter. The light on those beach cliffs and awesome background of the eucalyptus tree…I was there when they were packing that one up and even the guy packing it thought you had been robbed of an award and so did I.
Take Care and congratulations again on one heck of a week up in SLO!

  4. Hey Ron, thanks for your comment on my blog. It’s funny, while in SLO, I had several collectors and artists say the same thing, that I was “robbed” of an award at the Central Coast Exhibition. You never know how judging is going to go. Some awards I look at and think…whaaaat? Some may have thought the same at my First Place win last weekend at SLO Plein Air. Judging art is just really difficult. Anyway, it’s nice to be on the winning side, for once.
