Rock Wall at the Laderman’s

After finishing “Thanksgiving Day Snow” I decided it was still (barely) warm enough to do another quick study, so–standing in the same spot–I turned left and painted this scene. The Laderman’s–Mike and my longtime friends, like family really–spent Thanksgiving at their beautiful home at Tahoe Pines (just south of Tahoe City). I like this one. … Read more

Thanksgiving Day Snow – Fini

I finished this painting this morning. I don’t think I over-worked it…that’s always the fear. Let me know what you think. Thanksgiving Day Snow – Oil on Linen – 11×14

Happy Thanksgiving!

We awoke this morning to a few inches of snow!  Of course, we didn’t bring chains but we managed to get the car down the steep driveway and parked onto the relatively flat street. Gracie LOVES the snow.  She’s usually a skiddish, but somehow when she’s in the snow she’s “Mighty Mouse”, leeping through the … Read more

Tahoe Update

Well, Tahoe is beautiful but really, really windy today.  So it’s time to hang out with the family and cook for Thanksgiving.  No painting today.  Maybe tomorrow.  This is Blackwood Canyon, my favorite spot to paint Aspens in the Fall. Blackwood Canyon, Lake Tahoe, CA – 22 November ’06 Kyle and Jo Laderman, Lake Tahoe, … Read more

Learning “Sight Painting”

Gracie at Lake Tahoe, 21 November, 2006 On my last visit home, my mother presented me with a scrap book of items she kept of mine while growing up, including photos, old artwork and perhaps most telling–report cards! I remember school a bit, but reading these teacher/parent notes about ‘young Edward’ brought me back to … Read more

Moss Beach – Sun!

This one was done today, and coincidentally, I’m painting tomorrow with Verde Artist Guild at Fitzgerald Marine Preserve tomorrow morning, starting at 9:30am. Join us! Moss Beach, CA – Oil on Linen – 12×16 Here’s today’s … Read more

Trukee River, Winter

I’m headed to Lake Tahoe next week for a painting and turkey stuffing!  I’m hoping for snow.  To brush up on painting snow, I painted this one yesterday (yes, had the day off to paint!).  I’m enjoying using lots of paint and melding a bit the techniques of Ovanes Berberian with Ken Auster, two of … Read more

Moraine Sunset

Still enjoying painting reference slides from Rocky Mountain National Park. Here’s another sunset view. The land is not this dark in reality, but it’s so hard to take a decent photo! I need a large format digital scanner.  Someday. Moraine Sunset – Oil on Canvas – 12×16

Pinnacles “Back light”

Light in small doses can make for a dramatic picture.  I went hiking Sunday with friends to Pinnacles National Monument.  Here’s my plein air sketch of the area.   Pinnacles Backlight – Oil on Linen – 10×8  The start of our hike.
